The Slight Edge
I read The Slight Edge after hearing it recommended by Sean Spooner in his podcast.
It is a really powerful book with an important message:
Your philosophy creates your attitude, your actions, your results and these create your life. Little steps, compounded, do make a difference. The things you do every single day, the things that don’t look dramatic, that don’t even look like they matter, do matter. That they not only make a difference – they make all the difference.
The book describes the power of good habits and how quickly bad habits form. A message that really resonated with me is, “It’s more effective to take one business-building action every day for a week, than to take seven… all at once and then take the rest of the week off… The daily rhythm of the thing starts to change you. It becomes part of your routine, and as it does, it becomes part of who you are. That doesn’t happen with a once-in-a-while, all-out effort.”
Towards the end, I felt that the book became a bit preachy. This idea of doing something every day to improve became quite draining. I was reading the book in bed and was lying there feeling very guilty for all of the things I hadn’t done that day. The fact that I was reading this in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic and all routine I had had been cancelled out in the lockdown made the guilt even worse!
What have I learned by reading the book?
I need to try to find ways to create habits and do things regularly to improve. These things matter and will add up over time.

#30daysongchallenge A song that makes you want to dance

The Ultimate High was the song that I never got to dance to – ok, well once. Released in 1993 I remember hearing it but not knowing what it was until a few years later.
It wasn’t until my late teens when I was out clubbing that I heard it again and loved it – the one and only time I danced to it!
Somehow I worked out what the song was called and now it features on my favourite songs playlist. It’s a classic that should have had more success than it did.

There were loads of songs I could have picked here. But I’ve gone for one of my favourite songs ever… Insanity by Oceanic was a song that I loved back in 1991. My brother had it on CD and I would sneak into his bedroom and listen to it. I had to play it quietly and maybe that’s why I now need to play it loudly!
It’s an amazing song!

Most of the supermarket security guards at the moment don’t really look like they are enjoying their jobs (understandably, maybe).
But these guys are loving it!

Not really sure what to pick for this one as there’s no one I’d like to forget.
But there were people at high school who I’m glad to see the back of, so here’s a song that reminds me of high school! But this song doesn’t remind me of the people I’d rather forget, it makes me remember my best friend from high school, David.

Cheshire Live have shared this brilliant story of someone having fun and creating happiness during the lockdown.
A dad of two has been challenging his neighbours to a daily game of Where’s Wally to provide some light relief during coronavirus lockdown.
Each day as part of his allocated daily exercise, Wayne Maybury has dressed up as the main character from Where’s Wally and challenged the people of his home village of Haslington to take pictures of wherever they spot him.
The 46-year-old, who runs his own social media company, thought it would be a good way to make use of his spare time and improve the mental health of his neighbours.
#30daysongchallenge A song that reminds you of summertime

The Original’s I Luv U Baby reminds me of the Summer 0f ’95. I can remember playing it loads. This was the year that I got into dance music and loved this one so much. It still reminds me of summer now, as well as being a real feel good song!

Someone hosted a garden party on their own and started Corona Karaoke!
Another one not far from me, in Winsford!
